This comes in as more of a technology article, but it could have huge ramifications for manga readers outside of Japan. NTT Docomo, the predominant mobile phone carrier in Japan, has unveiled a Google Glass-style visor that can translate multiple foreign languages immediately. As the new gadget was showcased at Ceatec Japan, Docomo made the following statement:
Character recognition technology enables instant language translation for users travelling abroad and reading restaurant menus and other documents.
While many sites are touting this as a great solution for Tokyo and the 2020 Olympics, this could also serve as the perfect took for manga fans around the world. No longer would we have to wait for a series to get license and translated, which often takes months, sometimes years.
