The amount of anime shows and franchises that are currently available for viewers to watch nowadays are of an extortionate amount and this figure is growing by the day as new series’ get the green light for production to start. However, with this extensive library to choose from we often find ourselves unable to decide on what to watch and when we do decide on a series that has caught our attention, it turns out to be the worst show ever made. However, amongst this vast amount of sub-standard anime there a few gems, one of these being …
“Yukiteru Amano (Yuki) is a loner who never really interact with people and prefers writing a diary on his cell phone with his only companion being an imaginary friend named Deus Ex Machina, the God of Time and Space. However, Yuki soon learns that Deus is not a figment of his imagination but real when Deus makes him a participant in a battle royale with eleven others. Within this “Diary Game”, the contestants are given special diaries that can predict the future with each diary having unique features that gives them both advantages and disadvantages.”
Mirai Nikki has got to be up there with the titans of anime greatness. I remember watching this anime when it first aired and that anime season is the best season I have ever seen in regards to the anime contained within it, with Mirai Nikki being one of the major contributing factors behind this claim. The fact that Mirai Nikki was of such a good standard really made the week long wait between each and every episode a very torturous experience.
The anime, along with being an amazing show, is also one of the most weird anime I have seen in a long time. Now it’s not weird as in Higurashi weird, it’s weird as in overly attached girlfriend who will decapitate anyone she pleases weird. To most of you this would seem like a strange thing to say in a recommendation post, but this personality trait by Gasai Yuno and how it affects the story development is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the show.
However, it’s not just all about Yuno. The main male protagonist Yukiteru Amamo along with the other ten diary holders who are stuck competing in this life or death contest are all of a high standard in their own right. The characters combined with a superb and well developed story really do come together to make an anime great.
Mirai Nikki is probably one of the most messed up anime I have ever seen, yet I cannot help but fall in love with it. Never before in my life have I been more scared of a character but also felt so much for them at the same time. I am talking of course about Gasai Yuno, the female lead of the series. She has a serious obsession with Yukiteru, the male lead; which makes her borderline psychotic.
The series is ran like a game, 12 people all had diaries which could tell the future in some way or the other, and the objective of the game was to kill the other Diary Owners so they could then become God of the living. This is sort of an original concept but I have heard the idea of people fighting for their lives in a game before, and that isn’t original in the slightest; but what this anime does different is the fact that it makes you feel for the characters, like you know them.
So if you want an anime that will scare the crap out of you but will also leave you wanting more after each episode then this is for you. I wanted that much more after each part that I finished the entire series in 2 days.
