“Everything But The Rain Op.2″ – Review
Opening Comments
This week is a continuation of last weeks chapter and it seems that this chapter has went to the beginning of Isshin’s history with Soul Society. We have a few shocks for everyone with this and it never ceases to surprise, although some of them are quite predictable.
This will be a little history lesson from Soul Society and mainly about the 10th Division.
The chapter starts off with Ōetsu Nimaiya explaining why he sent Ichigo back to the World of the Living, to find where his Soul truly lies. This being of course because Ichigo does not understand his Zanpaktou, rendering it useless to use. He claims that no one would of been able to release their Zanpaktou without his Asuachi, and that is why Ichigo was never going to pass that test. He knew it, and so did Renji.
As you see from the picture above we see Matsumoto still in her position of 10th Division Vice Captain, but who is her Captain? Well it certainly isn’t Hitsugaya. It is none other than Ichigo’s father Isshin, but at this time he goes by Isshin Shiba, also known as the head of the Shiba Clan. See I told you there would be predictable spoilers, although his relation to Kaien Shiba has yet to be revealed, but there must be something since the resemblance to Ichigo is impeccable.
This part starts off with Rangiku searching for her Captain, who is secretly hiding in a tree to avoid working, something Rangiku must of inherited from her former Captain. Isshin gets all serious for a moment after having an argument about working, as he intensely stares deep into Matsumoto’s eyes he remarks “Because of the time you spent chasing me around … Your boobs are all shiny, NICE!”, leading to him getting another ass kicking. As they enter their Division Quarters they are greeted by the Third Seat Hitsugaya who later takes the Captain position, he seems to have finished a load of paper work, leaving Isshin astonished at his hard work. He even goes as far to call him next captain, leaving Rangiku irritated since she believes that since she is of a higher position she will be the next Captain. At this point Hitsugaya and Isshin agree that if she becomes Captain the Division will crumble.
Hitsugaya asks the Captain if he has read the report on the incidents in Narukishi City as 2 people have died in the last month, Isshin storms off to investigate leaving everything else to them. At this point Matsumoto is worried and she believes that she and Hitsugaya should accompany him because it is dangerous, but that is exactly why he left alone, because the other two’s power is to insufficient and would cause them to be in the way.
The final scene is where we see Aizen, Gin and Kaname, who are searching for Shinjis gang after the effects of the Hollow transformation, they want to know more and begin their plan. Aizen however states that their plan will be put into motion in good time, thus ending the chapter.
Closing Comments
So this week was a fairly good chapter of Bleach, it included some surprises that ties up a few important strings of the series. The main thing it cleared up is how people note that Ichigo resembles Kaien, and now that has been confirmed that Ichigo has some sort of relation to the Shiba Clan, since his father is the previous head of them. The history lesson was quite nice to see how 10th Division was but I think they will need to go into more detail as to why Matsumoto is not Captain, mainly because it seems that she has been there a lot longer than Hitsugaya.
There are a few off points about this chapter, mainly being the transition from the previous chapter into this one. Last chapter ended with Isshin being saved by Misaki, a Quincy, whereas this chapter began with a completely unrelated story to the situation, I was expecting something more about the relationship between a Quincy and a Shinigami.
